Davide Rebellin, an Italian cyclist, died at the age of 51 after being struck by a truck while out exercising. Tributes have flooded in for him. On Wednesday, the event happened in Montebello Vicentino, close to Vicenza. After colliding with a truck during a training exercise Wednesday near Vicenza, Davide Rebellin, 51, passed away.

Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme issued a statement in which he remarked, “This is an enormously sad day for all those who follow cycling.”

John Lelangue, a former general manager at Lotto-Soudal, said: “Simply put, it defies belief. He attended the Monte Carlo Criterium dinner with us on Sunday night.”

Richard Virenque, a seven-time Tour de France stage victor, recalled: “He was a nice, loyal person, and we experienced some wonderful moments together.”

Prior to his retirement earlier this year, Rebellin had a professional career spanning three decades. In the 1996 Giro d’Italia, he won an individual stage.

He also made cycling history in 2004 by becoming the first rider to sweep the three Ardennes Classic races, winning the Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

Rebellin received a ton more social media accolades as people recalled him as a “humble legend” and a person “who lived to ride his bike.”
