A few Iran supporters in Qatar also signaled support for the country’s nonconformists before of Monday’s game. They were wearing T-shirts with the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom,” which is a well-known expression of the progress made since Amini’s death.
The most audacious action to yet by the nation’s top athletes is the football team’s choice to remain silent during the national anthem on the sport’s largest platform. Players may or may not experience penalties.
Ehsan Hajsafi, a defender, made history on Sunday by becoming the first Iranian World Cup participant to openly endorse the demonstrations.
