Davide Rebellin, who was an Italian expert road bicycle racer born on 9 August 1971, passed away on 30 November 2022. He rode his last bicycle for UCI continental team Vitalcare Dynatek work service. Davide Rebellin was well-recognized in the world of cycling for his 2004 season, when he won an unprecedented treble with wins in Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Amstel Gold Race, and Fleche Wallonne. Davide Rebellin was born in the province of Verona in San Bonifacio. He turned professional in the year 1992 and came to the world of cycling with a string of best performances during his early age. Career of David Rebellion

David started the season of 2007 that led Paris Nice until Alberto Contador shifted him to second in the last stage, Nice. Afterward, he completed second in Amstel Gold Race and won the medal Fleche Wallonne, which made him the oldest winner of a UCI ProTour match. He also completed second in the UCI ProTour behind Cadel Evans.
With many solid performances in the season but without any individual wins, David completed as a third-highest rank rider in the UCI ranks of ProTour. Apart from these races, he only won one match in 2005, taking the first stage of the Brixia.
Davide Rebellin was second at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the Men’s road race in Beijing, having taken part in a six-man breakaway group but got a silver medal that was revoked in the doping sentence light by the IOC or International Olympic Committee. David also took his first win on 16 August 2011, returning his doping suspension and winning Tre Valli Varesine for four seconds ahead of Domenico Pozzovivo.

David, when 43 years old, won the queen stage of the Tour of Turkey on 28 April 2015, a mountaintop finish in Elmali. David also beat riders twenty years young than him to achieve this position. With the performance, he was the leader of the jersey but lost it on stage 6 to Kristijjan Durasek. He also abandoned on the final stage as he crashed after hitting a dog.
David rode in 2017 for the Kuwait Cartucho.es, where he won three matches. After one season with the team, he shifted in 2018 to Sovac-Natura4Ever. In 2019, February he rode for the team when his contract was terminated due to mutual consent.
He introduced in 2019 that he had rejoined the team of Meridiana Kamen and might retire from competition after the INRRC or Italian National Road Race Championships in June. He completed his last race in 18th place only five minutes behind Davide Fomento, who was the new Italian Champion. After that, David said that he would continue his career.
David said that he would continue for a 29th season on 8 December 2020 in professional racing and start in 2021 with Cambodia Cycling Academy. Also, this deal fell, and David signed with Work Service Italian team Marchiol Dynatek in February. David stayed with the team till the 2022 season, which was his last professional season in an interview with Marca Spanish Publication in January.
Doping
The IOC introduced in April 2009 that six athletes had tested during the Summer Olympics 2009 without mentioning sports or names. Afterward, rumors emerged that the athletes included two cyclists, one was a medal winner. The IOC confirmed that an Italian cyclist who was male tested positive for CERA during the men’s road race without knowing the name.
On 29 April 2009, the IOC said that the sample was sent for testing, and then IOC confirmed that David Rebellin was an involved athlete and he was tested positive.
The INOC or Italian National Olympic committee took David to court asking for 500,000 Euros in damage and a twelve-month custodial sentence as per Italian law passed in 2000 allowing for players who dope to be jailed for three years. Also, Court in Padova in 2015 ruled that he had no criminal case and cleared charges of tax evasion.
